How to manage your news collection
As your collection of newsfeeds and subscriptions grows, your Favorites
tree may require some pruning. You may also want to reorganize your newsfeeds,
or even store some away for future retrieval. The following is a summary of
Favorites management procedures.
Deleting a newsfeed, category, or subscription
- Choose any item in your Favorites tree and select Delete from the context menu.
A confirmation message will appear.
Storing newsfeeds for later retrieval
- To save a single newsfeed for later retrieval, right-click the item,
choose Export>To OPML File, and save the entry in a storage folder on your
hard drive or network. This saves both the newsfeed and its immediate parent
category or subscription name. You can then delete the item. To retrieve a
newsfeed that was stored and removed from the tree, right-click into the Tree, then choose
Import>From OPML File (Subcategory). An Open dialog appears. Locate the saved
file that contains the item you want to retrieve, then click Open to dismiss
the dialog. The item is added to the category you selected, under its previous
parent category or subscription name. If the same category or subscription
name already exists at the same level, the new item is added with an
incremental value (1,2...) appended to the category or subscription name.
- To restore a previously saved item to its original location, import the
item as described above, then move it (as described below) to its original
location in the tree. If the parent category or subscription was also removed
at some point, you'll need to add the parent category before importing the
item. To add a category or subscription name, right-click on an existing
folder or subscription name, and choose Add>Category
Moving a newsfeed or category to another category
The easiest way is to drag the newsfeed or category and drop it into the desired category.
A different way for moving newsfeeds is:
- Right-click on the newsfeed and select Properties from the popup menu.
- Choose a new location for the newsfeed from the Category tree.
- Note: If the selected newsfeed exists elsewhere in the tree, a message
appears to alert you of that fact. The selected reference is then removed in
deference to the other location in which the feed was found.
Copying a newsfeed to another position in the tree
- Follow the steps in the first procedure under, "Storing newsfeeds for
later retrieval," above.
